My Computer Speakers are out of order nonetheless they are connected?

My computer's speakers are connected, and they are functioning. When i run a audition that goes next to the speakers, they work. And while running AIM, the sounds work. but when i go to listen to music next to Windows Media Player or ITunes, or go to play a winter sport, no music. When opening ITunes, it say there is no audio nouns. What is wrong with my speakers??

Are you speakers turned on AND up at the speaker itself? How about within the control panel? Are they plugged into the correct port in the vertebrae of the computer?
